State funding is now available for summer programs, such as Rose City Summer Camps, that partner with local school districts to provide academic learning to kids. House Bill 3, the major school finance reform bill, passed into law this session. Wanting solid programs like Rose City Summer Camps to continue to flourish, I proposed an amendment to ensure such camps would receive state funding. I was happy to see the final version of House Bill 3 did just that.
Rose City Summer Camps is a partnership between Tyler ISD and the Mentoring Alliance, where kids engage in activities and academic learning, and are mentored during the summer. Tyler ISD provides the facilities for the camps to use, as well as some of their best teachers to provide academic instruction to the kids who attend. In addition to the funding for summer programs, because of House Bill 3’s new school finance formula under, Tyler ISD was able to increase its funding for Rose City Summer Camps by an additional $500,000.
Rose City Summer Camps is a safe space where caring staff mentor and foster students’ academic, spiritual, and emotional well-being. I am thrilled these types of summer academic programs will now get additional state funding so they can continue to have a positive impact on our kids.
