Significant border security incidents released by the TX Department of Public Safety on September 11th:Public Corruption: Public servants who engage in illegal activity or conspire with criminal organizations not only contribute to the furtherance of crime, they betray the public trust. This form of corruption is especially concerning in the Rio Grande Valley, where corrupt officials who permit traffickers to transit an area without interference, potentially allowing drugs, people, weapons, and other unknown threats to enter the country. On September 11th the TX Department of Public Safety released important border security information. DPS said in part:“Mexican cartels are the most significant organized crime threat to Texas, with seven of the eight cartels operating command and control networks in the state, moving drugs and people into the United States, and transporting cash, weapons and stolen vehicles back to Mexico. In short, an unsecure U.S.-Mexico border is a state and national security problem. DPS personnel, as well as the brave men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol, local law enforcement agencies, state partners and members of the Texas National Guard, are working around-the-clock to keep the local communities safe through Operation Strong Safety.”... TYLER, TX (KLTV) – With multiple school bus wrecks this week, East Texans are speaking up about installing seat belts on buses.Wednesday, two Athens Independent School District buses collided, sending 79 students to the hospital. On Friday morning, a Tatum ISD bus wreck delayed traffic; school officials say there were no injuries.Parents are calling for seat belts on their children’s buses. Even the kids on the bus, like 8-year-old Leela Coleman who fractured her collarbone in the Athens wreck, say they’re not boarding again “We need to make changes. We need seat belts on buses,” says Leela.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says public school buses carry 24 million children every year. With songs, speeches and praise, the Bell Elementary Global Communications Academy students celebrated veterans and the freedoms they have fought to keep for this country during a school-wide program on Monday.“Veterans are very important to our lives,” one student said. “If it wasn’t for them, our country wouldn’t be free.”The program included musical performances by the Bell Singers, a third- through fifth-grade choir, and the first-graders.
